Listen - Tottenham: Jol tells Defoe he had his chance!
Tottenham manager Martin Jol hit back at criticism from fans who booed his decision to substitute Jermaine Defoe in the League Cup 3rd Round win over. Defoe made his first start of the season in the game, and was thwarted a number of times by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones.
When the 25 year-old was hauled off after 70 minutes, the crowd voiced their displeasure at manager, but the under-fire Dutchman says Defoe has had numerous opportunities this season with his substitute appearances (totalling 90 minutes in the eight previous matches) and that he should be patient because his strike partner Robbie Keane suffered the same run two years ago.
