Winterburn hopes for a big day

It's the regional final stage of the 2011 Tesco Cup, with the Southern England regional final taking place in Putney's Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields this weekend (April 16th).

Over 60,000 kids are representing three age groups (U-13 boys, U-14 Girls and U-16 Girls) in over 3600 teams in the UK's biggest grassroots football competition, as they compete from a local, regional and national level, before hoping to progress to the UK Grand Final, which will be played on May 22nd at Birmingham City's St Andrews stadium.

Former Arsenal and England left-back Nigel Winterburn will be overseeing the event in London, which provided the winners of the U-16 Girls tournament last year in West Ham United Ladies, and he says he's hoping for more success from the Southern-based sides.
