Hodgson on Mascherano

New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted Javier Mascherano wants to leave the club after the Argentine midfielder returned from his extended summer break.

The 26-year old made his feelings clear to the former Fulham manager by refusing to answer his phone calls over the past few weeks whilst away following his World Cup exertions, and cemented his position upon his return to pre-season training.

Mascherano has reportedly been unhappy at the club for a year now according to Hodgson, but the new boss at Anfield says he's still a Liverpool player and any decision to leave is down to the club and not the player.
