Gary Speed on Newcastle's relegation struggle

Former Newcastle United midfielder Gary Speed says he's keeping his fingers crossed for his old team this coming weekend.

The 39 year-old left St James' Park in 2004, and is now on the coaching staff at Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield United, who themselves could replace the Magpies by the end of the Bank Holiday Monday.

With the Toon Army's current plight, the ex-Wales international says he's stunned to see the team where they are now, and is remaining hopeful on results going their way and that they can start building the team up from next season.

Gary was speaking as the ambassador for the UK Final of the Tesco Cup, the UK's biggest grassroots football competition aimed at boys and girls across the three age groups. The final takes place this Sunday, 24th May, at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium.
