Steven Gerrard delighted with award

It's been a season of many highs for Steven Gerrard, both on the domestic and international front. Liverpool have pushed Manchester United all the way in the Premier League race whilst his involvement with England has seen Fabio Capello's men reach the half way stage of World Cup qualification with a 100% record.

Speaking at an event hosted by England team sponsors, the Nationwide Building Society, Gerrard says he's honoured at receiving the highest plaudit of his season so far, the 2009 Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year. There's still plenty to play for as England still have two World Cup qualifiers away to Kazakhstan and home to Andorra which can all but guarantee progress to South Africa next year.

Gerrard also discusses his hopes for next season's Liverpool team, and how they can progress from this season.
