Listen - Tottenham 0-1 Hull City - Poyet admits 'strange' feeling
Spurs latest defeat consigned them to the worst ever Premier League start by any team whilst personally, it was the worst beginning to a season since the Titanic sunk.
96 years have not seen Spurs start a season so badly, with limp performances early on in the campaign cementing their place at the bottom of the table. This latest defeat to Hull did them no favours at all.
So many glaring holes at Spurs, from their weakness up front, where just 9 months ago they absolutely thrived. Jermaine Defoe left after losing the long term battle with Robbie Keane, before the Irishman declared his love for Liverpool and moved to Anfield in the summer. The Dimitar Berbatov debacle leaves a sour taste in the mouth as Spurs failed to add significantly to their attacking options.
Darren Bent's lack of finesse, composure and general touch will forever hold him back from being anything more than decent, whilst Spurs still don't have a left winger after years and years. Damien Comolli, Tottenham's Sporting Director, has ignored that side of the pitch ever since he arrived, but the blame must lie at the feet of Chairman Daniel Levy after seeing Geovanni's stunning free kick take the points back to Humberside.
Levy was too interested in the summer to squeeze every last penny out of buying clubs for supposed 'dead wood' whilst the chase for Andrei Arshavin can be described as nothing other than farcical, a joke. Levy prides himself on buying players for the lowest possible price, and selling his players at an optimum - the sales of the Sunderland Three, Malbranque, Tainio and Chimbonda had nothing to do with Ramos - he did not want those players sold, least of all Malbranque who was Spurs player of the season last year.
Rome burns whilst Levy fiddles and now Spurs have to face up to the reality that they are in a dogfight to survive in a season where so much was expected of them. Still, loads of bubbly at the shareholders meeting!
Gus Poyet believed the performance on Sunday was Spurs best of the season so far in front of their own fans - how sad is it that he is right?
