A difficult 5 minutes at the end of the first half saw any hopes Fulham had of claiming all 3 points at Craven Cottage were all but dashed. Despite creating all the chances of the first 45 minutes, it was the visitors who struck first and second in double quick time, followed by a red card for striker Andy Johnson, who picked up his second yellow for a late tackle.

Danny Murphy pulled one back in the second half but manager Roy Hodgson admitted afterwards he was amazed his side lost the tie after their initial domination.
