Listen - Newcastle v Blackburn - Hughton pleased with Kinnear appointment
Another surprising day in another surprising week in the life of Newcastle United. It's four defeats in a row now for the Geordie faithful, including a 2-1 loss in midweek to struggling Tottenham in the League Cup.
But with all the talk of Terry Venables taking over the reins at St James' Park, and rumours of David O'Leary also interested, it came as a complete shock to the football world when Newcastle United announced Joe Kinnear would be stepping in to the breach until the end of October. The former Wimbledon manager has been out of the game since resigning his post as Nottingham Forest manager back in 2004.
Current caretaker Chris Hughton spoke ahead of the visit of Blackburn - and the former Spurs number two says he's very much looking forward to his new boss taking over next week, with a bit of stability hopefully providing a boost to the players.
