Now that the transfer window is shut, the almost daily links between Liverpool and Gareth Barry come to an end for good, or at least until January.

Following the early captures of Andreas Dossena, Philipp Degen and Robbie Keane, the Reds secured the services of Albert Riera from Espanyol - a player, some have said, who came instead of the Aston Villa man.

But Rafa Benitez insists that is not the case as the two play completely different positions on the pitch and moved to quash rumours that he is not being given enough money to buy the players' needed for a meaningful title push.
