Listen - Man Utd 4-1 West Ham - Day defends Curbs over comments

The preceeding days before this match were dominated by Alan Curbishley's supposed comments about the title race which infuriated Chelsea boss Avram Grant - the Hammers' boss saying he believed it would be an 'injustice' should Manchester United not win the league.

So perhaps it was no surprise that after their 4-1 defeat to the league leaders' Curbs' opted against appearing in front of the waiting media, instead sending out number two Mervyn Day.

Day's thoughts on the match were those of disappointment, with 'poor goals' conceded meaning the Hammers' were three down inside the first 26 minutes - although the comment was surely intended for Cristiano Ronaldo's 39th & 40th goals of the season, as the man who saved West Ham last year, Carlos Tevez, was a breathtaking strike.

Dean Ashton's goal put them back in it despite the daunting prospect of United coming unstuck from such a dominating position until Nani was sent off for a ludicrous headbutt on Lucas Neill.

But Day believes his side couldn't have shown much more attacking intent with Carlton Cole, Bobby Zamora and youngster Freddie Sears on show by the final whistle and dismissed Grant's worries over comments which the ex-keeper claims were made some three weeks ago.
