Listen - Champions League Quarter-Final 1st Leg: Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool - Wenger fumes over penalty denial
Listen to Arsene Wenger's post-Liverpool press conference!
The 1st leg of the match dubbed the 'Battle of Britain' saw controversy which left Arsene Wenger fuming after the final whistle.
Emmanuel Adebayor had put the Gunners' ahead midway through the first half, but Dirk Kuyt levelled for Liverpool just 3 minutes later, prodding home Steven Gerrard's cross.
Arsenal pushed on in the second half, whilst Liverpool sat back and seemed content to end the game as a draw, and managed to grab a slice (or two!) of luck in the process. Firstly, Alexandre Hleb was hauled down by Kuyt in the box yet the referee signalled a corner. Replays clearly showed the Dutch striker was nowhere near the ball and had blatantly stuck an arm out in front of the Belarus winger despite referee Pieter Vink's positioning no more than 5 yards from the challenge.
It was a decision that incensed the Arsenal manager and he did not mince his words in his post-match press conference, whilst perhaps regretting his decision to send on Nicklas Bendtner, the substitute managing to block Cesc Fabregas' goal bound toe poke.
So it may seem to be advantage Liverpool, but there's no doubt Arsenal have what it takes to beat Liverpool at Anfield, as two wins in 4 days last year proved.
