Listen - West Ham in a Nani state
The culmination of a long search was finally reached today when West Ham United announced the arrival of Gianluca Nani as technical director.
The much maligned position, often criticised for undermining managers, however doesn't seem to be concering Alan Curbishley, who insisted he was "involved in the process completely."
In recent times the role of the Director of Football/Sporting Director/Technical Director has come under scrutiny, with critics citing Spurs' Damien Comolli as one of the reasons for the removal of White Hart Lane incumbent Martin Jol, whilst others questioned the influence of Chelsea's Frank Arnesen over the removal of Jose Mourinho.
But it's seemingly different for West Ham. The arrival of the Italian from Serie B side Brescia comes after a thorough look for the man best suited to the role, and Curbishley believes the new guy in town will help both himself and the club to progress.
