Listen - Capello confirmed as England boss!
It was the worst kept secret in world football, but finally all the speculation can end. At 5pm on Friday evening Fabio Capello was confirmed by FA spokesman Adrian Bevington as the new manager of the England national team.
The 61-year old Italian signed a 4 ½ year deal after negotiations were successfully concluded between the FA and his son/agent. There were worries earlier in the day that a sticking point would arise because of Capello's insistance on bringing in an all Italian backroom staff. However, the FA also confirmed the appointment of Franco Baldini & Italo Galbiati as assistants, whilst Franco Tancredi joins as goalkeeping coach along side Massimo Neri who joins as fitness coach.
It's been just over three weeks since England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008, with previous incumbent Steve McClaren losing his job just hours later. The FA have moved quickly to secure their man, and Bevington says the lack of English managerial talent is a worry.
Listen now to the FA's statement.
